ON THE RIGHT TRACK
Mike
Lundgren's visionary spirit keeps KCAA and "The Many Moods"
technologically moving ahead.
July 7, 2006
That a mom and pop radio station would even think to
invest in studio video cameras is considered unthinkable,
not to mention financially risky. Such a move might be
thought by many in the industry to be reserved strictly for
talk radio outlets that are home to nationwide syndicated
radio stars.
Mike Lundgren on the other hand, gave this a lot of thought,
and decided to take the risk. In the middle of a busy life,
where he owns and operates his own 7 day a week internet
business from his offices in Elgin Texas called "Ideal
Solutions," Lundgren saw a way that he could put his Dad's
fledgling radio station on the map. Mike is the son of Fred
Lundgren, the CEO of Broadcast Managment Services, the
company that operates and controls KCAA/Loma Linda, a talk
station located in the Inland Empire of Southern California
at 1050 on the AM dial.
In addition to running Ideal Solutions, a company dedicated
to offering customers the best in integrated wired and
wireless voice and data communications solutions(from
installation to service and maintenance), Lundgren sees each
day how he has provided answers for his clients on small
levels and has seen noticable growth for his customers
businesses. In fact he experiences this so often, that it
made sense to apply the same business model to help his
father take his enterprise to the next level. Lundgren also
serves KCAA as its Internet Technologist.
His first task was to make sure that the station, which is
touted as being "the station that leaves no listener
behind," is able to be heard all over the world on an
internet that is using the very finest server. As KCAA is
presently a daytime only station, he wanted listeners not
only worldwide, but in the local coverage area, to be able
to continue listening well past sign off. This month, this
will no longer be a need as KCAA was recently granted FCC
approval to broadcast 24 hours a day. This is expected to go
into effect sometime this month.
The next task was his perfection of the on demand "Podcasting"
technology. With state-of-the-art equipment recently
purchased by KCAA, each podcast will download and buffer
much faster now, and will feature the highest quality sound.
The podcasting page for each host and programmer on the
station is able to hold several shows on one page. According
to Lundgren, "when we've run out of space on the page, we'll
create an archive page where those shows will be stored and
will always remain on listener demand anytime they want to
hear a show."
Effective this week, each show that is a KCAA locally
originated program, can now be seen. The station features a
huge roster of syndicated shows, such as "Imus in the
Morning," "The Alex Jones Show" and several Air America
programs. When those air, all that viewers can see are
various KCAA board operators sitting in the studios
listening to the audio feeds of these shows which originate
away from the station. Programming that broadcasts live from
the station (located in the San Bernardino Carousel Mall)
include "The Right Source" with Kevin Shannon; "The Daily
Briefing" with Col. Ray; "H.T.O.S." with Howard and Nick,
and of course "The Many Moods of Vince Daniels."
Said Lundgren, "the best way for my Dad to develop and to
build-up shows and get them ready for national syndication,
was to think big. If we thought we were big enough to have
cameras in the studio and could create that excitement, we
would be percieved as big stuff by the industry. Hey, people
eat this stuff up."
