THERE'S NO NEED TO FEAR, PODCASTS ARE
HERE ON VINCE DANIELS DOT COM
August 10, 2007
"My first reaction when I discovered
that all my tapes were gone, to be honest I
thought about Don Imus. Of course that was a
situation where CBS forced K.C.A.A. to pull all
his podcasts off their server, but before Imus,
nobody ever came up missing from the main index
page of podcasts. Even if you left the station
having less than a positive experience, there
was always a way to access your old shows. All
you needed was the address to get to the index
page. When I went there on Monday and noticed
that I was no longer on, and yet Nick's old
H.T.O.S. show still shows up, even though Nick
was on my final broadcast saying much worse than
me, the only thing I can say is that I feel
honored to be in the company of Don Imus on this
one. All I can figure is that I
must really have Fred (Lundgren) pissed at me."
In the week leading up to his surprise departure from
K.C.A.A., Vince Daniels had this funny feeling that the
station might try to pull a fast one on him and strip him of
all his podcast privaledges. He devoted a few days last week
to downloading his "Many Moods of Vince Daniels" shows and
saving them in a special folder on his computer. Sure
enough, a little over 2 days after he said his goodbye's to
the K.C.A.A. listeners, as expected his picture was taken
off of the Saturday schedule page on the station's website,
the same picture that shows the time of day that his show
airs along with a button that can be clicked which takes
listeners to the hosts' podcast page. What was not expected
however was that Daniels' link would be completely erased
from off the main index page as well.
"Not that any of it matters to me," says Vince. "I have a
majority of the episodes, and I know that from day one, my
former co-host Mikey Mondavi subscribed to the podcast every
week and had them sent to him so that he could put them on
his i-pod." In fact, just to make sure he did an inventory
the other day and he still has them. In fact, he put them
all on several flash drives. Just like the one's that I
have, all of his have the original commercials and
newscasts. In fact, the podcasts always turned on and
started recording about 30 seconds before the 10 0'clock
news began, and the later one would keep going for another 6
minutes after I went off the air. So we're covered."
Beginning April 1st, 2006 through the final Many Moods
of Vince Daniels on August 4th, 2007, the show was on
the air for 71 weeks. 2 of those weeks were encore
broadcasts. Of the 69 original episodes, according to Vince,
"not all of them were winners. I would have to say that
about 50 shows were real stand-outs." Those are the the
shows that Daniels will now start featuring on his website.
He says he will unveil the first podcast starting on
Saturday morning, August 11th, and "maybe even at my usual
10am showtime" says Vinnie. He'll begin with the show that
he suspects many did not yet get a chance to think about
downloading from the KCAA site, which is the show from last
Saturday, August 4th, his final show on the station.
His plans are to upload 2 new shows every other week.
"Personally, I thought that my last 5 or 6 shows were among
my best. What I'll more than likely do next week is run the
shows from July 21st and July 28th. I received tons of
compliments on the show we did on the 21st featuring Saint
John Hunt and then my attorney, Kathy Freberg. On the 28th,
Evan Sayet guest hosted my show and the reaction to him ran
hot and cold, but damn, people called in record numbers that
day, and he did a fantastic job whether you agreed with him
or not."
The way it will work is that each new podcast will be
available on Saturday mornings. Once uploaded, they will
remain permanently on the site. These will be featured on a
new page called PODCASTS and will take the place of MEDIA
ARCHIVES which until now, housed some of the old W.P.M.D.
shows that will now be taken down.
The new podcasts will all be prior K.C.A.A. editions of The
Vince Daniels Show. While Daniels and Mikey might enjoy
their raw copies featuring old KCAA commercials and
newscasts, the rest of you will have to enjoy it without all
those. The new podcasts will feature no station references,
including news, unless Melissa Chavez is featured as part of
the show. The only reference to KCAA will be in the main
intro theme, and on the final show where Vinnie went out
with the Dennis Baxter legal I.D. which, according to Vince
was part of the continuity of that segment. "Mikey's happy.
He actually sits there and sings to that Pennysaver
commercial, and he loves Melissa's news. I'm happy because I
finally found a little player that I'm sure everyone will
like, not to mention that all the pods will be downloadable
to mp3 as well. I'm hoping to have the page filled in the
next several months. There won't be any rhyme or reason to
what I upload. It'll be random." |
